Founder & Past President
Hawaii Science & Technology Council
Welcome to the third edition of The Wave. It is with great pride that I look back to the work of the HiSciTech Communications Committee last year. The working committee mustered commitment and thoughtful analysis as it tackled the challenges and opportunities facing Hawai`i’s economic future.
I want to personally thank the launch team which met weekly for several months from the early conceptual phase to the publication of the first issue in November, 2009. For their hours of time and wisdom they deserve to be recognized: Strategic Communications Chair, Chuck Jones, retired Vice President, Booz Allen Hamilton; and committee members Jim Karins, President & CEO, Pukoa Scientific; John Ray, General Manager, SunFuels Hawai`i; Kevin Kelly, Advisor to the Vice-president for Research, University of Hawai`i; Peter Kay, CEO, Flat Earth Ventures; Shan Steinmark, Founder Strategic Transitions Research, and Tony Clapes, CEO, Hawaii’s Future Inc.
I extend a special thanks to David Tumilowicz, Publisher, Hawai`i Business Magazine for his outstanding editorial input and to Patrick Parsons, Hawaii Business Director of Marketing, for the technical creation of the site. Finally, another special thanks to Rory Flynn, Communications Manager, SunFuels Hawai`i. The Wave simply would not exist but for his vision and professional approach to shining the light on those issues so critical for Hawaii’s economic prosperity.
Moving forward, the new year brings some changes. The Hawai`i Science & Technology Council was founded five years ago and has made tremendous progress under the guidance of its board of directors. In 2010 HiSciTech will have a new President who has the passion to take the organization through its next growth phase.
I am enormously pleased to pass the leadership baton onto Dr. Keiki-Pua Dancil whose executive experience within the tech industry equips her to be a strong advocate for Hawaii’s innovation industries. I know Keiki-Pua and her team will continue to improve and enhance The Wave in future editions.
Thus far, your feedback tells us we are on the right track. Keep the feedback flowing. Stay involved and concerned … Catch The Wave!
